Bob Reynolds

Bob Reynolds
28-year old saxophonist Bob Reynolds is not only a sophisticated and communicative improviser, but also a lyrical composer with a natural gift for strong melodies.

A three-time recipient of ASCAP’s Young Jazz Composer Award, his debut album on the Fresh Sound New Talent label, CAN'T WAIT FOR PERFECT, epitomizes his soulful playing and melodic writing. Together with his extraordinary band of Aaron Goldberg on piano and Rhodes, Reuben Rogers on bass, Eric Harland on drums, and Mike Moreno on guitar, Bob creates a sound that, while still jazz, does not fall into the conventional categories of bebop or standards, fusion or smooth-jazz, or even mainstream contemporary jazz. With hints of soul, funk and rock, it is jazz that swaggers as much as it swings.

At Berklee Bob studied with George Garzone, Hal Crook, and Billy Pierce. He received numerous awards and scholarships such as the Charlie Parker Scholarship, the Fredrick Cameron Webber Award, and the Woodwind Department Award. He also performed at The JVC Jazz Festival, the Blue Note, and festivals in Europe and Japan to represent the college. During his senior year—after winning Billboard Magazine’s prestigious Endowed Scholarship—Bob led his quartet in a featured performance at the Monterey Jazz Festival. That same year he attended Betty Carter’s Jazz Ahead program, at the Kennedy Center, to work with world-renown trumpeter/composer Terence Blanchard and bassist/composer John Patitucci. Bob is currently on tour with John Mayer
